Admission Overview
Qualified applicants for the Online Master of Science in Health Informatics program and certificates must hold a bachelor’s degree, which can be in any field, and have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). The bachelor’s degree or diploma for applicants educated internationally must be from a school or university that grants degrees equivalent to the U.S. bachelor’s degree. The University of Pittsburgh will determine whether or not the applicant’s international equivalent of a bachelor’s degree is acceptable.
We welcome students of all educational and professional backgrounds, but MSHI students typically have experience in health and rehabilitation sciences, health information management, information science, computer science, biology, management, nursing, or other clinical fields. Please note that a GRE is not required for admission to the program.

One Letter of Recommendation
This letter should come from an individual who has taught you in academic settings and/or supervised clinical, research, or professional activities. It should address academic, professional, and personal attributes, as well as your potential for meaningful graduate study.
Essay
This 2-3 page essay should discuss your goals, strengths, skills, and experiences that will contribute to success in the program and in the profession. You should also include a statement discussing your interest in the field and reasons for applying to the University of Pittsburgh.

Upcoming Deadlines
Pitt’s Online MS in Health Informatics program and certificates offer multiple start dates per year in the spring, summer and fall. Students are admitted on a rolling basis.
Applicants who submit an application by the early decision deadline will receive an admissions decision within one week.
